The Border Gaitherin Youth Showcase Event 2008

FRIDAY 30th May, 2008

'COOL Concert'  Coldstream Community Centre  7.00pm

Last year's 'COOL CONCERT' was a huge success, and enjoyed immensely by both audience and participants.
This  year's concert features the best young traditional musicians of the Scottish Borders and beyond. Our aim is to include a range of ages of players, singers and performers, all of whom are involved in traditional music in one form or another and all of whom are keen to have performance opportunities.
Already lined up to perform are:-
    Coldstream Primary School - 'Wee Linties' p1 & 2
    Highland Dancers
   'Shona's wee group'
   'Highline' - Fiddle group
   'The Small Hall Band'
   'Riddell Fiddles'
Solo Singers:- Robyn Kinsman Blake,  Eliza Younger
Song Duets :- Brigid Mhairie and friends
    Accordionists :-Scott Turnbull, Andrew Waite
This year we specially welcome Folk form 'Folkestra'- “The Sage Gateshead’s regional youth folk ensemble, which includes several young talented players from the Borders as well as from the North of England.
Finally, we have the exciting young trad group, The House Sisters, two thirds of whom are from Kelso. Carly Blain and Rachel Cross, together with keyboard player and singer Kira Slater recently enjoyed huge success at The Wynd in Melrose as part of the “Northern Streams series of concerts.
Please support this event and give encouragement to the young folks, some of whom may be performing for the first time in a large concert.

We are grateful for the involvement of Youth Music Initiative staff Susie Kelly and Shona Mooney, both Traditional Song and Music Development workers with Scottish Borders Council.

We will use the newly re-furbished Coldstream Community Centre - winner of Lottery Funding from 'The People's Millions'
